how it began?

Written by Jim Johnston - Managing Director of Publishing Services and Multimedia at LifeWay Church Resources.

About 14 months ago, the bonus room at my home became a media campground for my son’s neighborhood friends. They watched DVDs. They played video games both on and off line. They listened to music. They watched television. They goofed off. They ate lots of my food. They hung out.

Several serious questions came to mind as I pondered what was happening in the room above my garage.

  • Did these teenagers have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ?
  • Did they know anything about the Bible?
  • Did they view anything that was going on at our church as relevant to their lives?
  • What could my family do to introduce these kids to Christ and get them into our church

Fuel video montageAbout that time, a group of folks at LifeWay began talking about the idea for a new student Bible study product called TFuel: Igniting New Life with God’s Story.T When we asked student ministry leaders, we found out that more than 80 percent of them wanted some kind of video component to use for Bible study. That said one thing to me—these leaders knew their teenagers inside and out.
So we set out on the journey of creating Fuel for our churches. A team of great people inside and outside of LifeWay—Alice Stegemann, Debbie Beavers, Bill Cox, Suzanne Wade, Lynne Weaver, Rick Simms, Kenny Adams, Richard Peterson, Darren Whitehead, Aarron Schwartz, Geoff Moore, Steve Geyer, and Mark Hall and Casting Crowns, to name just a few—created a brand new kind of Bible study.

All of it was based on the idea of creating an experience for teenagers—non-Christians and Christians alike—that would get them into the vital stories of the Bible using all of the digital tools God has given us today in the 21st century. It’s all about merging video, music, and a host of technology to make Bible study a rockin’, edgy, life-changing experience for teenagers.

Once they've experienced the video, they are ready for life-changing discussions straight from God’s Word. For leaders like you, it means less preparation time and more meaningful experiences in teaching the Bible. Fuel gives you 12 complete sessions on two DVDs and three CD-ROMs. All you need—video, commentary, teaching plans, reproducible student handouts—comes in this package. Mix and match what you need to create the Bible study experience you want for your teenagers.

Fuel is now ready for you to use in your student ministry. The eight volumes will take your student group on a two year journey through 96 of the essential stories of the Bible.
